Disney’s Real-Life Mermaids
Back in the 1950s and 1960s, Disneyland had its very own mermaids splashing around at the Submarine Voyage in Tomorrowland. Four of these finned beauties are pictured here, flapping their tails and waving at the camera, giving park guests a magical underwater show.
It might’ve been all smiles for the mermaids, but the harsh chlorine levels in the lagoon eventually became a concern. By 1967, the park had to call it quits on this aquatic adventure. While the mermaids may have waved their final goodbye, their splashy antics left a memorable mark on Disneyland’s history. Turns out, not all fairy tales end happily underwater.
